Print on demand is simple!

Don't believe me?

That's my goal with this blog article. Is to share with you just how simple starting a successful print on demand store can be.

For the last few years, I've had several print on demand stores. Some of them I have ran for a long time, and some just for a holiday season.

In this article I want to talk about how I am able to grow one of my POD stores to be profitable quickly

And this was something I was able to repeat way more than once..

I tell you that print on demand can be simple, because once you have a "formula" that works... you can repeat it over and over again.

Like a template.

I'm not here to tell you i've got something magic though... That's what the people standing in front of you with Lamborghinis try to say

Here's what I mean...

With print on demand you don't need to do anything spectacular to succeed.

You don't need to implement an advanced, or super secret marketing strategy

You just need to do 3 things very well. And that's what this article is going to be about.

Here are the 3 things

  1. Create a best selling product
  2. Build a trust worthy store
  3. Have an efficient way to market the products

Below, in this article I will outline the different things I would recommend you to do to achieve those 3 things.

1) Create a best selling product

The key to success with a POD store is what you’re selling - your product line.

If you mess this part up, don’t even read the rest, it won’t matter.

A product line can be broken down into 3 parts.

  1. niche
  2. Product choice
  3. Design

A niche should be specific and passionate enough to stop what they’re doing and check out your product.

Most of our customers are on social media, which means they aren’t shopping.

Your niche should be something people identify with, or something they’re passionate about.

Product choices should make sense for your niche. Gone are the days where people will buy anything you out in front of them (t shirts, mugs with silly designs on them)

Nowadays, there are tons of amazing POD products we can choose.

Home goods, apparel, jewelry, even products for the car.

Think about what someone in your niche might get excited about.

When it comes to designs, yours has to represent the niche.

Think about what elements (images, colors and quotes) you would need to have for someone to recognize it as a niche item.

This way, when they’re scrolling through social media they won’t miss it!

  • Print on demand starts with your niche - choose things that people are passionate about or things they identify with.
  • This could be a job they have, an activity they love or a hobby they do. Avoid abstract ideas or subjects that might be tough to make designs for.
  • Getting people to make an impulse purchase on your POD item is hard, which is why you wanna choose unique products to get them excited.
  • Typically I try to choose something that "makes sense" for my niche.
  • This means, I choose products that allow them to showcase the niche to others in a way that makes sense.
  • Meaning, for someone who loves baking, cooking - or wine, I will make them something to decorate their kitchen/house with.
  • Or for someone who loves to hunt, or fish - some sort of apparel they can wear in public will suffice.

Basically what I am saying to you, is the goal of a POD store should be to create a one of a kind item for a specific niche. We are not building our own clothing line with our POD store. We are creating tacky, silly, fun, creative and unique products for our niche - to allow them to celebrate the niche they love.

Part 2) Building a trustworthy store

Next up, is your store.

For starters, you need a good name. I recommend a .com or a .shop or a .store

Anything else I would avoid.

You also need a logo. Make your logo as a rectangle, and try to find a nice font paired with an icon next to it. Don’t go overboard

For your store, choose a few colors to use throughout the site. This will help people subconsciously trust your site.

Next, product descriptions. Write 2-3 sentences of “human like” text instead of using the generic stuff from your POD app.

  • You store's "branding" starts with it's name. Choose something that is 1-2 words and is easy to pronounce and spell.
  • Don't make up words, or use your own name in the domain.
  • Make a clean logo, one that looks like it's for an e-commerce store rather than a blog or something you'd see on a sign at an office park.
  • Use 2-3 colors on your site to give yourself a "look"
  • Write unique product descriptions for each product. People don't trust things that feel generic.
  • Avoid making too many designs at the beginning. Launching your site with 4-10 designs on it is perfectly fine.

3) Have an efficient way to market the products.

Next, is marketing.

And for me this involves 3 primary methods.

  1. Paid ads
  2. Organic
  3. Influencer

For this blog, we’ll talk about free marketing with organic methods.

You can create a social media page for your niche, on Instagram for example.

And begin to cultivate a feed of content that people in your niche will enjoy.

Images, memes, videos etc are all options. Look all over the internet for content that you can repost.

👇 And then, as your account grows, show people your products like this!

Add the link to your account bio and boom, potential free traffic!!

  • One of the things I always tell students of mine is that they need to create fans of their store.
  • I say that you don't want to get yourself in a position where your business only exists if you're running ads.
  • This means that if your ads aren't running, you have no business.
  • To make sure you do have a business, you need followers on social media.
  • I challenge all of my students to post 1-2 times a day on a social media page for their niche to grow their first 100 followers before running any paid ads.
  • Over time, you will be able to offer followers discount codes and be able to make sales without spending on ads!

My coaching students have made about $5 million in sales on their own stores (I send these mugs to them when they reach milestones)

Obviously, the things in this blog article could be things that I could spend days and days writing about

Or even, days and days speaking about!

Guess what?

Our POD Ninjas Facebook group has grown so much, that I am now doing live training workshops

Our next one starts soon!

You'll get to hear me talk about all of this stuff for days and days 😀
